Crack Cocaine Abuse Symptoms

Crack cocaine abuse symptoms are usually apparent, but some crack cocaine abuse symptoms are subtle and unnoticeable. Crack cocaine abuse symptoms are extremely damaging to the user. Crack cocaine abuse symptoms can be classified into two categories: symptoms that show up during early use and symptoms that do not become until use has progressed into addiction and dependence.

Addiction to crack cocaine is a disease, and, like any other disease, addiction has symptoms that accompany it. The most noticeable crack cocaine abuse symptoms are of the physical variety, and these physical symptoms not only affect the internal body, but also the outer body.

One of the most noticeable crack cocaine symptoms is burns on the crack user's skin and/or clothing. Crack cocaine is most often smoked through a glass pipe, however the process of doing so is relatively difficult. The crack must be heated to a very high temperature in order for it to melt and produce smoke. Once the crack is emitting smoke, the user must inhale it, but in the process often singes his/her eyelashes and eyebrows. The heat from the pipe can also cause their fingertips to burn, leaving visible marks or scaring.

The internal physical crack cocaine abuse symptoms are more difficult to detect. These symptoms include cardiovascular symptoms as well as physiological symptoms such as irregular heartbeats and depression. An irregular heartbeat that is produced by crack cocaine use can lead to heart attacks, strokes and possibly death.

In addition to these physical crack cocaine abuse symptoms, there are also emotional symptoms. A person who is using crack on a regular basis will start to lose connection with loved ones and seek lower companions with whom they can use drugs and participate in drug-related activities. Drug addicts often begin to steal money and valuable items from close friends and relatives and burn bridges with people who were once very important to them. Addicts also lose interest in healthy activities and stop participating in areas such as work, school, family, and social responsibilities. The use of crack can cause blood pressure increases that can cause strokes or heart attacks, and in some cases these effects have proven fatal. *

If it is evident from these symptoms that someone you love has a problem with crack cocaine, it is very important that help is sought. There are many ways to go about getting help, even if the addict does not want help. In addition, if help is not sought when the problem first arises, it becomes harder and harder to get help and successfully stay away from drugs.
